Stately Front Stoop–Hyde Park, Tampa"

"Stately Front Stoop–Hyde Park, Tampa", 8x8, oil

Don't you just want to sit on this front porch on Saturday morning and read the paper? With a big lazy dog at your feet? That's what I'm thinking.

Sweet Pea–Hyde Park, Tampa

'Sweet Pea–Hyde Park, Tampa", 8x10, oil

Another house from my favorite neighborhood in Tampa.  I loved the cheerful yellow columns against the green house and crisp white trim.  Of course, I overstated the red flowers a bit more than life, but they were there.

That's one thing I like about painting, I can emphasize what I like and downplay what's not so important (like the house next door).  I always tell my students, "You're the artist and you can do what you want!"

Shady Veranda–Hyde Park

"Shady Veranda–Hyde Park", 8x8, oil

This summer I've started a new series of small paintings of my favorite part of Tampa: Hyde Park.  This  is a historic area with lots of beautiful homes ranging from cute arts and crafts bungalows to larger more stately homes like this one.  The streets are lined with large, leafy trees and the area has a real small town feel.

I go every Saturday morning and camp out on the sidewalk and paint for a few hours.  It's fun and I get to meet a lot of the locals, who pass by taking their exercise or walking their dogs.  If you're in the area on a Saturday, please stop and say hi!
